Pregnancy Confirmation:
We understand that the situation of finding yourself with an unplanned pregnancy is very stressful and worrying. We are here to support all women in such a situation.
The first step before proceeding with abortion is to confirm your pregnancy and gestational age. When a woman is pregnant, the cells will produce a hormone called HCG, which is the hormone that can be detected both in the urine or blood test two weeks after unprotected sex, or a missed period.
Dear, it is not recommended for women to take abortion pills when not pregnant. If a woman happens to take the pills and she is not pregnant, she will only experience all the side effects but she will not bleed.
A woman can have a pregnancy test by using the following methods:
Urine test: This option is cheaper and provides the result immediately. This result will show whether it is positive or negative. This type of urine test is commonly sold in kits that are available in a pharmacy store near you.
Blood test: These tests are taken at any health service. The result takes a couple of hours to arrive. This test can be done in any clinic or laboratory. There are two types of pregnancy blood tests:
Qualitative: It only says if it is positive or negative
Quantitative: details the amount of the hormone according to the week of gestation
If you are considering taking a blood test it's highly recommended to take the quantitative one, in order to know the approximate number of weeks.
Ultrasound: This requires a medical visit, and can be used to detect gestational age and pregnancy implantation. But if this test is performed before having 4 weeks pregnant, it is likely that the pregnancy will not be seen. This is because the pregnancy gestational sac takes a while to develop and be shown.
